Database Administrator

Job Description:

This position will report to the Director of IT Operations and is responsible for overall ownership of the database systems within UniMed Direct.  Included in these duties is the design, maintenance, documentation, and tuning of SQL databases and ETL/EDI systems.  The position requires someone who can communicate effectively, work independently and has extensive experience in database design, administration, and ETL/EDI process mechanisms.  The candidate must have a proven track record of developing and deploying consistent accomplishments with greatest speed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong security protections for data

  • Management of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (or higher) relational database

  • Responsible for the data architecture and overall design

  • Disaster Recovery design and management, including database backups and versioning

  • Support all aspects of the database environment; deal with problems that arise quickly and effectively

  • Provide leadership and mentoring for the rest of the database team, and for developers

  • Responsible for development and continuing maintenance of documentation for all database systems

  • Design, create, document and monitor ETL/EDI processes necessary to load disparate data received from partners and clients

  • Maintain database structure by implementation of standards and guidelines

  • Monitor and maintain performance of database systems

  • Design, establish and maintain internal controls to minimize, if not eliminate, data corruption

  • Developing and maintaining data models that accurately reflect the current state of the database.

  • Write, test, and execute SQL scripts for reports, repairing data errors, and file transfers.

  • Defining, maintaining and enforcing database standards.

  • Implementation of proper change control procedures; participate in pushes to ensure database changes are pushed properly.

  • Develop custom reports and run ad-hoc queries

  • Manage the data warehouse

Professional Competencies/Educational Requirements/Required Qualifications:

  • Will be current with the latest technology and methods in database systems design and administration

  • Proven track record in managing and working on multiple priorities and resources in a dynamic environment

  • Possess good communication skills at all levels in the organization

  • Experience with XML schemas and execution of XML transformation tasks

  • Extensive experience developing internal controls and data validation mechanisms

  • Experience designing and building a data warehouse; data warehousing methodologies and implementations

  • Extensive experience with SSIS required; in addition to experience with other ETL/EDI applications

  • Experience with SSRS

  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, VBscript, etc) required

  • Possess programming abilities as they would relate to management and handling of data outside of a SQL‑based environment; .NET technologies preferred

  • Possess excellent troubleshooting abilities and be able consistent determine root cause for issues as they arise

  • Produce novel, supportable solutions for complex problems

  • Experience with rules engines preferred

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience, showing increasing responsibilities in a database administration role.

Location: Austin, Texas

Salary range: $85K to $115K
